Nursery Catalogues

For the dedicated plant researcher, nursery catalogues can often provide valuable information: dates of introduction, names and spellings, synonyms, hybridisers, description of colours, hardiness, growth habits or eventual sizes and sometimes cultivation notes. This information can then provide help when interpreting later documentation and lead to more confident verifications. Sometimes the simplest ‘snippet’ gleaned from a catalogue provides the final piece of a puzzle.

Luckily, many of the oldest catalogues published have been preserved and are now freely available to researchers and enthusiasts in digital form. More recent catalogues are scarcer and we hope to address that situation gradually through an ongoing project, casting a net far and wide to source and digitise material to add to this website.
